Warpaint is on loop today. I still can't believe I missed them at Coachella! :'( They are phenomenal. Hmm, I think both my mom and my boyfriend classify my type of music as "sleepy, lethargic music with vague sounds passing off as words." I can't say I don't agree :)) The difference is I enjoy it a lot - I don't think they do.

Dear Bombastarr, nabasa mo na ba un Lolita ni Vladimir Nabokov? If yes, what did you think of it?
YES. It is and always will be one of my favorite books. The fact that Vladimir Nabokov was able to make a typically "atrocious" subject like pedophilia sound so arresting and convincing had an impact on me. His prose was flawless; I actually found myself rooting for Humbert Humbert despite his fantasies. I always find time to read snippets of it once in a while; it's just always there in my dorm bookshelf, like Dolores Haze putting me under the spell of its gaze.

1. My Favourite Book by Stars - "And to this day, when everything breaks, you are the anchor that holds me. And that is why we'll always make it. How I know your face all the ways you move, you come in, I can read you, you're my favorite book." What other metaphor to use for my great affection for someone other than my love of books? At the end of the day, there is nothing/no one else I'd rather come home to and cuddle with.
2. Look Up by Stars - "So far, keeping it together's been enough, look up, rain is falling looks like love." It's not the number of grand moments or extravagant gifts you've shared, it's how you've managed to keep the relationship afloat despite everything else.
3. Window Bird by Stars - "You melt your doubt, and fall into me, I find your mouth and try to hold it." I love it when you're vulnerable, when you let me take you in for all your filth, all your goodness.
4. VCR by The XX - "But you, you just know. You just do." You know me, you know us, so well.
5. You and Me Song by The Wannadies - "Always when we fight, I kiss you once or twice, and everything's forgotten, I know you hate that." / "Now we watch TV 'til we fall asleep, it's not very exciting, but it's always you and me and we'll always be together." We're not the exciting, overly affectionate, excessively schmaltzy pair and we don't mind because we'd rather wolf down hotdogs and popcorn while discussing politics than spend the night on a hot-air balloon.
6. 976-EVIL by Deftones - "So I gaze in your eyes, and I wonder, can you take me on?" In my opinion, the sexiest way I can ask anyone: Can you handle me?
7. All I Want by Joni Mitchell - "Do you want, do you want, do you want to dance with me, baby? Do you want to take a chance on maybe finding some sweet romance with me baby? Well, come on." / "All I really really want our love to do is to bring out the best in me and in you too. I want to talk to you, I want to shampoo you, I want to renew you again and again." Because Joni Mitchell is a goddess. Because I cried when Annette Bening sang this in The Kids Are All Right. An because I wish I could sing it to someone too, with tears in my eyes. Of course, I hope not under the same circumstances :P
Dear Bombastarr, your writing is immaculate
I find it hard to believe that anyone would ever use this adjective on any of my writings, but thanks, Anon. But I really think I am nowhere near that, and if you want immaculate writing, you should read Estrella Alfon's "Fairy Tale In The City" - one of the best Filipino short stories I've read that had a huge impact on me (and a lot of others too, I'm certain.) In fact, go out and get yourself anthologies by NVM Gonzales, Francisco Arcellana, Greg Brillantes, Nick Joaquin and all the other Filipino greats. I tell you, you will not regret it.
